Common Exe Errors
Computer
errors such as .exe errors cause a great deal of confusion
and angst amongst computer users. To start with, they
disrupt operations. One minute everything is running fine,
the next, you have an error staring you in the face and your
program closes. Sometimes, a prompt allows you to “debug”
the error but when doing so, miles of code (that make sense
only to computer programmers) is displayed.
Sometimes
a simple reboot will bypass the error and allow you to
resume your computing. Other times, every time you try to
perform a certain operation or run a particular program, you
receive the error. Below is a look at common .exe errors.
Spoolsv.exe errors are typical errors that you are likely to
encounter during printing operations. These errors occur
when printer drivers become corrupt or missing. A typical
spoolsv.exe error looks like this:
· Spoolsv.exe has generated errors and will be
closed by Windows
· Printer operation cannot continue due to lack
of resources
· Subsystem unavailable
Explorer.exe and iexplore.exe errors are common due in large
part to the popularity of Microsoft Internet Explorer. These
errors are typical after recent upgrades to your operating
system or when incompatible programs are installed including
ZoneAlarm and Clean Sweep. A typical Explorer error looks
like this:
· IEXPLORE.exe
has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will
need to restart the program.
· Explorer.exe
has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. Dr
Watson will run and create a log file.
Winlogon.exe errors occur as you are trying to log on to the
computer. These errors are troubling because you can’t get
past the log on screen in order to do further
troubleshooting or research. These errors usually indicate a
problem with your Windows installation or problems with a
recent update or restoration. A typical winlogon.exe error
looks like this:
·
Winlogon.exe has generated errors and will be
shut down
· WinLogon.exe
could not locate component. This application has failed to
start because comctl32.dll was not found. Re-installing the
application may fix this problem.
· User
Interface Failure. The logon user interface DLL “msgina.dll”
failed to load. Contact your system administrator or restore
the DLL.
Svchost.exe errors are related to the generic host process
for services that access Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs). Each
time your computer starts up, the svchost.exe file checks
the computer’s registry in order to create a list of
services that it must load. Numerous errors can occur
including access violation errors, memory leaks, slow
performance, Windows not responding errors, and interference
with automatic updates. A typical svchost.exe error looks
like this:
· SVCHOST.exe
Application Error. The instruction at 0x0745F2780 referenced
memory at 0x000000000 the memory could not be read.
When is an
.exe error not an .exe error? Computer errors are tricky
because many can be traced not only to corruption but to
spyware and malware. These malicious programs love to sneak
in under assumed names so that users will be reluctant to
remove them. After all, if a computer virus or worm shares
the same name as a common system files such as explore.exe
or svchost.exe users will think these are legitimate files.
Thousands
of .exe applications and processes exist and each one is
prone to damage, corruption, imposters, and errors. In many
cases, a quick fix is available in the form of a patch,
program update, or hotfix. Always visit Microsoft’s website
and search their knowledgebase for help with Windows-related
.exe errors.
