Driver Error

A disabled driver and s driver error can affect your computer and how well it runs. If you find yourself faced with numerous driver errors or a computer that is not running at its best, chances are your computer’s registry needs to be cleaned up.

The reason a driver error can occur within the registry is because the registry stores information about your devices and their related drivers. However, the registry is far from perfect, it can contain entries relating to disabled devices and other erroneous information. When this happens, Windows gets down to business, loading drivers it doesn’t need which in turn can conflict with the real driver you need and cause driver errors.

A huge amount of registry entries and combinations of settings – correct and incorrect - exist that can send Windows into a state of confusion. As a result, your computer can slow down significantly, freeze up, crash, and generate computer errors including driver errors.

One way to troubleshoot driver errors is by going into Device Manager. You can access Device Manager in Windows XP by going to the Control Panel, choosing System, and clicking on the Hardware tab. Next, click on the button that says, “Device Manager”. A listing of your hardware will display.

Find the appropriate device and right-click on it. Choose Properties.

Under Device Status you’ll see the current state of the device. If you are getting driver errors, you will likely see a message saying that the device is not functioning properly.

If so, click on the Troubleshoot button and follow the prompts.

If you are still getting driver errors afterwards, the problem is likely in the Windows registry. If so, use a registry cleaning tool to clean it out. Trying to manually edit the registry is NOT recommended as the risk of registry editing is not worth the hassle. In fact, Microsoft even warns users to do so at their own risk.

Registry cleaning software utilities are inexpensive and they work wonders. One of the easiest ones to use that yields fantastic results is RegCure from ParetoLogic Software.
