File Extension BUP
Name: BUP
or .bup
Description: BUP is a file extension associated with backup
files. A variety of different programs use this file
extension. Many automatically create these BUP files as a
backup in case the program crashes or the original file
becomes corrupt. BUPs can also be associated with DVD IFO
backup files. These BUPs are backups of the IFO file from a
DVD video disc. It stores information about the contents of
the DVD. Programs that can open BUP files include Nero
ShowTime and InterVideo WinDVD.

Problems:
Are you having a difficult time opening BUP files? It’s
possible that you don’t have the appropriate program for
opening BUP files installed on your PC or that you have a
registry-related error. BUP files require a related backup
software application in order to open properly. Because so
many different applications use BUP files, you may need to
do a little detective work to figure out which program is
related to the BUP file in question. One way is to examine
where the BUP file is located and see if that folder is
related to a particular application. To rule out a registry
error, run our free registry scan.
Manual
Removal Instructions: To manually remove a BUP file, open
Windows Explorer by right-clicking the Start button and
clicking on Explore. Choose your hard drive found in the
left side pane and double-click the drive. Find the Search
bar and type in: *.BUP
Your
system will search for any BUP files on the hard drive you
selected and display a list of results. Right-click the
specific BUP you’d like to delete and choose Delete from the
list displayed in the pop-up menu. When asked if you are
sure you want to send the BUP file to the Recycle Bin, click
on Yes.
Solution/Recommendations: If you are having trouble with the
file extension BUP or the associated applications, make sure you are
running the latest version of the software. You may not know
exactly what application is associated with the BUP file
however you might be able to figure it out based on the BUP
file’s location. Once you know the application you are
working with, go to their website and download the latest
updates and patches.
In
addition, BUP file corruption and missing BUP file
associations can often be linked to registry-related errors.
Because of this, we highly recommend a registry scan to rule
out potential problems with the registry itself.
