File Extension CLASS
Name:
CLASS or .class
Description: Java Class File
Author:
Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Category:
Developer
File Type:
Developer files
Problems:
File extension CLASS files oftentimes generate errors such
as, “Class loading error: Illegal constant pool index.”
Different versions of the Java Developer Kit create
different versions of CLASS files. For example, version 1.4
generates CLASS files for version 1.2 of the Java Virtual
Machine by default while previous versions output 1.1
version CLASS files. In some cases, the software is
expecting 1.1CLASS files and isn’t equipped to handle 1.2
files.
In
addition, it’s possible that you don’t have the appropriate
program for opening CLASS files installed on your PC or that
you have a registry-related error. CLASS files require
either the Java Virtual Machine, Java programming software,
or a text editor in order to open properly. To rule out a
registry error, run our free registry scan.
Manual
Removal Instructions: To manually remove a file extension
CLASS file, right-click the Start button and click on
Explore to open up Windows Explorer. On the left,
double-click the drive you’d like to search for CLASS file
extensions. Next, go up to the Search bar and type in:
*.CLASS
This
instructs Windows to search the selected drive for any file
ending with the extension of .CLASS. Windows will display a
list of all CLASS files found on the chosen drive. Navigate
to the specific CLASS file you want to delete, right-click
the CLASS file, and choose Delete. When asked if you are
sure you want to send the CLASS file to the Recycle Bin,
click on Yes.
Solution/Recommendations: If you are having trouble with the
CLASS files or applications, make sure you are running the
latest version of the Java Virtual Machine. Updates and
patches are often released that address known issues with
the application. For example, an update may be available to
update your software to accept newer versions of CLASS
files. In addition, CLASS file corruption and missing file
extension CLASS file associations can often be linked to
registry-related errors. Because of this, we highly
recommend a registry scan to rule out potential CLASS file
extension problems with the registry itself.
