File Extension KMZ
Name: KMZ or .kmz
Description: Google
Earth Saved Working Session files. Google Earth is a 3D
model of the Earth that users access via a software
interface and the internet. The technology that powers this
program combines network streaming and advanced 3D graphics
to produce a high-performance system delivered to desktop
PCs. Google purchased a company called Keyhole in late 2004
and adapted their zipping utility to work with Google Earth.
KMZ files are adaptations of the Keyhole utility. KMZ files
can be unzipped with any unzip utility such as WinZip.

Problems: Are you
having a difficult time unzipping KMZ files? It’s possible
that you don’t have an appropriate unzipping program for
opening KMZ files installed on your PC or that you have a
registry-related error. KMZ files require an unzipping
software application such as WinZip in order to open
properly. To rule out a registry-related error, run our free
registry scan.
Manual Removal
Instructions: To manually remove a KMZ file, right-click the
Start button and click on Explore. Explore the folders and
drives until you find the file you wish to delete. One way
to do this is to click on the hard drive and then enter *.KMZ
in the Search bar. This tells your system to search the
drive for any file ending with the extension of .KMZ.
Windows will search and display a list of all KMZ files
found on the drive. Right-click on the KMZ file that you
want to remove and click on Delete in the menu that
displays. When asked if you are sure you want to send the
KMZ file to the Recycle Bin, click on Yes.
Solution/Recommendations: If you are having trouble with the
File extension KMZ or the Google Earth application, make sure you are
running the latest version of the software and that you are
connected to the internet. Check for any new Google Earth
updates and patches and update your software as needed.
These fixes are often released to repair known issues with
the application.
Make sure you have a
unzipping utility installed on your PC such as WinZip.
In addition, KMZ file
corruption and missing file associations can often be linked
to registry-related errors. Because of this, we highly
recommend a registry scan to rule out potential KMZ problems
with the registry itself.
If you have WinZip or
another unzip utility installed on your PC but are still
experiencing problems when trying to open KMZ files, go back
into Windows Explorer and right-click on the KMZ file you’d
like to open. Click on Open With and then click on Choose
Default Program. Windows will display a list of recommended
programs for opening your KMZ files. If WinZip or another
appropriate program is listed click the corresponding icon.
Place a check mark in the check box that says, “Always use
the selected program to open this kind of file.”
