Problems:
Are you having a difficult time opening file extension ODT
files? It’s possible that you don’t have the appropriate
program for opening ODT files installed on your PC or that
you have a registry-related error. ODT files require a
compatible software application such as OpenOffice.org
Writer, StarOffice, or Microsoft Word (with the appropriate
OpenXML/ODF Translator add-in installed) in order to open
properly. To rule out a registry error, run our free
registry scan.
Manual
Removal Instructions: To manually remove an ODT file,
right-click the Start button and click on Explore. In the
left side pane of Windows Explorer, navigate to your hard
drive, for example C:, and double-click the drive. Next,
type *.ODT in the Search bar and click Enter.
Windows
will now search the C: drive for any file ending with the
ODT file extension. Windows will display all of the ODT
files found on the C: drive. Navigate to the specific ODT
file you want to delete, right-click it, and click on
Delete. When asked if you are sure you want to send the ODT
file to the Recycle Bin, click on Yes.
Solution/Recommendations: If you are having trouble with the
file extension ODT files or related applications, make sure
you are running the latest version of the software. Go to
the manufacturer’s website and download the latest updates
and patches to repair any known issues with the application.
If you are trying to open an ODT file with Microsoft Word,
you will need to install an add-in beforehand.
In
addition, ODT file corruption and missing ODT file
associations can often be linked to registry-related errors.
Because of this, we highly recommend a registry scan to rule
out potential problems with the registry itself.
If you
have a compatible program such as StarOffice or
OpenOffice.org installed on your PC but are still having
trouble opening ODT files, go back into Windows Explorer and
right-click on the ODT file you’d like to open. Click on
Open With and then select Choose Default Program. Windows
will display a list of recommended programs for opening the
ODT files. If one of the programs is listed, click the
appropriate icon. If you want this particular program to
always open ODT files, place a check mark in the check box
that says, “Always use the selected program to open this
kind of file.”
