File Extension PDF
Name: PDF or .pdf
Description: Adobe Portable Document Format
Author: Adobe Systems, Inc.
Category: Viewer
File Type: Document viewer – File extension PDF files are
files that allow users to view documents with an associated
viewing program regardless of the type of application that
was used to create the document itself. For example, if a MS
Word document is sent as a PDF file, the end user can view
the document using a free PDF reader without the need for
having MS Word installed on their system.
Problems: Are you having a difficult time opening PDF files?
It’s possible that you don’t have the appropriate reader for
opening PDF files installed on your PC or delivered over the
internet. It is also possible that you have a
registry-related error. File extension PDF files require a
program called a reader such as Adobe PDF Reader in order to
open properly. To rule out a registry error, run our free
registry scan.
Manual Removal Instructions: To manually remove a PDF file,
right-click the Start button and click on Explore. This step
opens up Windows Explorer. On the left side, find your hard
drive (typically the C: drive) and double-click the drive.
Navigate to the Search bar and type in: *.PDF
This tells your computer to search the C: drive for any file
ending with the extension of .PDF. Windows will list all of
the PDF files found on the C: drive. Navigate to the
specific PDF file that you’d like to delete. Right-click on
the file. A pop-up menu will display. Click on Delete. When
asked if you are sure you want to send the selected PDF file
to the Recycle Bin, click on Yes.
Solution/Recommendations: If you are having trouble with the
PDF files or applications, make sure you are running the
latest version of the reader software. Adobe Reader is a
free file with frequent updates and patches that address
known issues with the application. In addition, file
corruption and missing file associations can often be linked
to registry-related errors. Because of this possibility, we
highly recommend a complete registry scan to rule out
registry errors.
If you have Adobe Reader installed on your PC but are still
having trouble opening PDF files, go back into Windows
Explorer and right-click on the PDF file you’d like to open.
Click on Open With and then Choose Default Program. Windows
will display a list of recommended programs. If Adobe Reader
is listed click the Adobe icon. Make sure the check box that
says, “Always use the selected program to open this kind of
file.” is marked with a check mark.
