Application file
File Type:
Application file – The PPS extension is the file associated
with Microsoft PowerPoint slideshows. It is also associated
with Personal Producer Storyboard files.
Problems:
Are you having a difficult time opening PPS files? It’s
possible that you don’t have the appropriate program
(Microsoft PowerPoint or a related PowerPoint viewer) for
opening PPS files installed on your PC or that you have a
registry-related error. PPS files require either Microsoft
PowerPoint or the free PowerPoint viewer in order to open
properly. In addition, OpenOffice.org has an application in
its free suite of programs that can both edit as well as
view PPS files. To rule out a registry error, run our free
registry scan.
In
addition, some users pre-package their PPS files with a
built-in viewer so the slideshow opens automatically. If you
receive an unexpected file extension PPS file in your email
or download one from the internet, be sure to use an
anti-virus and anti-spyware scanner to ensure their safety.
These PPS files can contain malicious programming.
Manual
Removal Instructions: To manually remove a PPS file,
right-click the Start button and click on Explore. This
opens Windows Explorer where you can perform a file search.
In the left side pane, navigate to your hard drive and
double-click it. Next, go up to the Search bar and type in:
*.PPS
Windows
will search your hard drive for any file that ends with the
extension of .PPS and display a list of all of the PPS files
found on the hard drive. Navigate to the PPS file that you’d
like to delete. Right-click on the PPS file and click
Delete. When asked if you are sure you want to send the PPS
file to the Recycle Bin, click on Yes.
Solution/Recommendations: If you are having trouble with the
PPS files or related viewing applications, make sure you are
running the latest version of the software. Microsoft
releases patches and updates that address known issues with
their applications. In addition, file corruption and missing
PPS file associations can often be linked to
registry-related errors. Because of this, we highly
recommend a registry scan to rule out potential problems
with the registry itself.
If you
have either PowerPoint of a PowerPoint viewer installed on
your PC but are still having trouble opening PPS files, go
back into Windows Explorer and right-click on the PPS file
you’d like to open. Click on Open With and then Choose
Default Program. Windows will display a list of recommended
programs. If PowerPoint or the PowerPoint Viewer is listed
click appropriate icon. Place a check mark in the check box
that says, “Always use the selected program to open this
kind of file.”
