Problems: Are you
having a difficult time opening PPT files? It’s possible
that you don’t have the appropriate program for opening file
extension PPT files installed on your PC or that you have a
registry-related error. PPT files require Microsoft
PowerPoint or a PowerPoint viewer in order to open properly.
Many PowerPoint users save their PowerPoint files using the
packager which includes a built-in viewer. To rule out a
registry error, run our free registry scan.
Because PowerPoint
files can contain viruses, spyware, or other malicious
programs, use extreme care when an unexpected PPT file
arrives. Run anti-virus scans and anti-spyware scans on any
unexpected PPT file.
Another problem
encountered with PPT files in the 2003 version is that older
PPT files containing Office 2000 clipart won’t open unless
you apply a critical update to PowerPoint.
Manual Removal
Instructions: To manually remove a PPT file, right-click the
Start button and click on Explore to open up Windows
Explorer. On the left, double-click the drive you’d like to
search for PPT file extensions. Next, go up to the Search
bar and type in: *.PPT
This will tell Windows
to search the drive for any file ending with the extension
of .PPT. Windows will display a list of all PPT files found
on the drive. Navigate to the specific PPT you’d like to
delete. Right-click the PPT file and click on Delete. When
asked if you are sure you want to send the PPT file to the
Recycle Bin, click on Yes.
Solution/Recommendations: If you are having trouble with the
file extension PPT files or applications, make sure you are
running the latest version of the PowerPoint software.
Microsoft releases regular updates and patches to address
known issues with the PowerPoint application. For example, a
patch is available for Office 2003 addressing PowerPoint’s
inability to open files containing Office 2000 clipart.
In addition, PPT file
corruption and missing PPT file associations can often be
linked to registry-related errors. Because of this, we
highly recommend a registry scan to rule out potential PPT
file extension problems with the registry itself.
If you have PowerPoint
or a PowerPoint viewer installed on your PC but are still
having trouble opening PPT files, go back into Windows
Explorer and right-click on the PPT file you’d like to open.
Click on Open With and then select “Choose Default Program.”
Windows will display a list of recommended programs such as
PowerPoint. If PowerPoint is listed, click on the related
icon. Mark the box that says, “Always use the selected
program to open this kind of file.”
