File Extension SWF
Name: ShockWave Flash,
SWF or .swf (pronounced “Swiff”)
Description:
Macromedia Flash File or Adobe Flash File (Adobe acquired
Macromedia in 2005) – Anyone who regularly surfs the
internet will have encountered numerous Flash animations or
small button effects. These file extension SWF files play in
web browsers that have the Flash plug-in installed.
Author: Macromedia,
Inc.
Category: Internet
File Type: Internet
Problems: Are you
having a difficult time opening SWF files or viewing
interactive content on a webpage? It’s possible that you
don’t have the appropriate Flash plug-in for opening SWF
files over the internet or that you have a registry-related
SWF error. File extension SWF files require a Flash plug-in
as part of the web browser or the standalone Adobe Flash
Player in order to open properly. To rule out a registry
error, run our free registry scan.
Manual Reswfal
Instructions: To manually reswfe a SWF file, right-click the
Start button and click on Explore. This step will open
Windows Explorer where you can navigate to the file in
question. To perform a search of all SWF files on your PC,
click on your hard drive in the left pane and go up to the
Search bar. Type in: *.SWF
Windows will now
search the drive for any file ending with the extension of
.SWF and then display the results. Find the specific SWF
you’d like to delete in the list. Right-click the SWF file
and click on Delete. When asked if you are sure you want to
send the SWF file to the Recycle Bin, click on Yes.
Solution/Recommendations: If you are having trouble with the
SWF files or the Flash plug-in or player, make sure your
browser, the plug-in, and/or the Flash Player are current.
Most modern web browsers come with current versions of the
Flash plug-in. However, Adobe releases various updates and
patches, so it never hurts to double check to be sure you
have the most current release.
In addition, file
extension SWF file corruption and missing SWF file
associations can often be linked to registry-related errors.
Because of this, we highly recommend a registry scan to rule
out potential problems with the registry itself.
If you have the Adobe
Flash Player installed on your PC but are still having
trouble opening SWF files, go back into Windows Explorer and
right-click on the SWF file you’d like to open. Click on
Open With and then select Choose Default Program. Windows
will display a list of recommended programs. If Adobe Flash
Player is listed, click the corresponding icon. Place a
check mark in the check box that says, “Always use the
selected program to open this kind of file.”
