File Extension Torrent
Name:
TORRENT or .TORRENT
Description: BitTorrent is a peer to peer application used
for downloading files such as music, games, and video from
peers connected to the internet. The file extension TORRENT
is associated with BitTorrent. A .TORRENT file is a
BitTorrent MetaInfo file that contains information about the
various parts of files and their locations across the peer
to peer network. Because of the way BitTorrent works, a file
for download is split across multiple peers so that the
bandwidth requirements are split amongst users. In order to
piece together the file, the end-user’s computer accesses
the .TORRENT file to find out where each file fragment is
located.

Solution/Recommendations: If you are having trouble with the
BitTorrent files or client applications, make sure you are
running the latest version of the software. Updates and
patches are often released that address known issues with
the application. In addition, file corruption and missing
file associations can often be linked to registry-related
errors. Because of this, we highly recommend a registry scan
to rule out potential problems with the registry itself.
