File Extension Torrent

Name: TORRENT or .TORRENT

Description: BitTorrent is a peer to peer application used for downloading files such as music, games, and video from peers connected to the internet. The file extension TORRENT is associated with BitTorrent. A .TORRENT file is a BitTorrent MetaInfo file that contains information about the various parts of files and their locations across the peer to peer network. Because of the way BitTorrent works, a file for download is split across multiple peers so that the bandwidth requirements are split amongst users. In order to piece together the file, the end-user’s computer accesses the .TORRENT file to find out where each file fragment is located.

Problems: Are you having a difficult time opening TORRENT files? It’s possible that you don’t have the appropriate program for opening TORRENT files installed on your PC or that you have a registry-related error. TORRENT files require a BitTorrent client software application such as BitTorrent, Azureus, or Limewire in order to open properly. To rule out a registry error, run our free registry scan.

Manual Removal Instructions: To manually remove a .TORRENT file, right-click the Start button and click on Explore. This opens Windows Explorer. In the left side pane, navigate to your hard drive, for example C: and double-click the drive. Next, go up to the Search bar and type in: *.TORRENT

This will tell Windows to search the C: drive for any file ending with the extension of .TORRENT. Windows will display a list of all TORRENT files found on the C: drive (or whatever drive you specified earlier. Navigate to the specific TORRENT file you’d like to delete. Right-click on the file and click on Delete. When asked if you are sure you want to send the file to the Recycle Bin, click on Yes.

Solution/Recommendations: If you are having trouble with the BitTorrent files or client applications, make sure you are running the latest version of the software. Updates and patches are often released that address known issues with the application. In addition, file corruption and missing file associations can often be linked to registry-related errors. Because of this, we highly recommend a registry scan to rule out potential problems with the registry itself.
