Problems: Are you having a difficult time opening file
extension WIDGET files? It’s possible that you don’t have
the appropriate program for opening WIDGET files installed
on your PC or that you have a registry-related error. While
WIDGET files are small programs, they do require the larger
Yahoo! Widget Engine in order to operate properly. To rule
out a registry error, run our free registry scan.
According to Yahoo!, when Widgets aren’t appearing or a task
tray icon for the Widgets application is missing the usual
culprit is spyware. Scan your computer for spyware using an
anti-spyware program. Yahoo! Says that once the spyware is
removed, the Widgets begin functioning normally.
Manual Removal Instructions: To remove the Yahoo! Widget
Engine, go to the Control panel and click on Add and Remove
Programs. Find Yahoo! Widgets in the list and follow the
prompts for removal. To manually remove a WIDGET file,
right-click the Start button and click on Explore to open up
Windows Explorer. On the left, double-click the drive you’d
like to search for WIDGET file extensions. Next, go up to
the Search bar and type in: *.WIDGET
This will tell Windows to search the C: drive for any file
ending with the extension of .WIDGET. Windows will display a
list of all WIDGET files found on the drive. Navigate to the
specific WIDGET you’d like to delete. Right-click on the
WIDGET file and click on Delete. When asked if you are sure
you want to send the WIDGET file to the Recycle Bin, click
on Yes.
Solution/Recommendations: If you are having trouble with the
file extension WIDGET files or applications, make sure you
are running the latest version of the software. In addition,
you must have either Windows Vista, Windows XP SP2, or
Windows 2000 SP4 or Mac OS X 10.3.0 or above. In addition,
you should make sure to install your operating system’s
latest service packs and updates. The current version of
Yahoo! Widgets automatically updates itself so you shouldn’t
have to manually update the Widget Engine.
In addition, WIDGET file corruption and missing WIDGET file
associations can often be linked to registry-related errors.
Because of this, we highly recommend a registry scan to rule
out potential WIDGET file extension problems with the
registry itself.
