File Extension XLS

or .xls
Description: File extension XLS is the file extension used
for Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
Author:
Microsoft
Category:
Spreadsheet file
File Type:
Spreadsheet file
Problems:
Are you having a difficult time opening XLS files? It’s
possible that you don’t have the appropriate program for
opening XLS files installed on your PC or that you have a
registry-related error. XLS files require Microsoft Excel or
a related viewer installed on your PC in order to open
properly. If you don’t have Microsoft Excel, download the
free Excel viewer from Microsoft. In addition, OpenOffice is
a free suite of programs capable of reading Excel files. To
rule out a registry error, run our free registry scan.
In
addition, Excel files can be infected with computer viruses
or other malicious programming. If you receive an unexpected
email containing an XLS file, do not open it as it could be
infected. Use a virus scanner to ensure its safety.
Microsoft Excel files can also contain dangerous macros
within the file itself. Even if you trust the source of the
file, if prompted to run a macro, choose No.
Manual
Removal Instructions: To manually remove an unwanted file
extension XLS file, right-click the Start button and click
on Explore. This opens Windows Explorer. In the left-hand
pane, navigate to your hard drive such as the C: drive and
double-click it. Next, find the Search bar and type in: *.XLS
This tells
Windows to search the C: drive for any file ending with the
extension of .XLS. Windows will show you a list of all the
XLS files it found on the C: drive (or whatever drive you
specified earlier). Navigate to the specific XLS that you
would like to delete. Right-click on the file and click on
Delete in the pop-up menu. When prompted about whether or
not you are sure you want to send the file to the Recycle
Bin, click on Yes.
Solution/Recommendations: If you are having trouble with the
file extension XLS or related applications, make sure you
are running the latest version of Excel. Microsoft regularly
releases updates and patches to address known issues with
Excel. In addition, file corruption and missing file
associations are often linked to registry-related errors.
Because of potential registry problems, we highly recommend
a registry scan to rule out issues with the registry itself.
