Rtvscan.exe Error

If your computer is acting up and you find the culprit is the rtvscan.exe file, you either have a legitimate program or possibly a malware program disguised as one. The rtvscan.exe program is an executable program that is part of Symantec’s Internet Security Suite. It enables the real time virus scanning features of the program to catch viruses as they enter your computer.

But malware programs such as viruses and spyware love to imitate legitimate programs and processes in the hopes that you will err on the side of caution as far as removing them. Even if you’ve used an anti-spyware or anti-virus tool to remove the malicious programs disguised as rtvscan.exe, you may still be experiencing related issues such as a computer slowdown.

If this is the case, and your computer is running extra slow or generating numerous computer errors, you’ll benefit from cleaning out the junk residing in your Windows registry. The Windows registry is a huge system repository that stores everything about your computer: paths to files, device drivers, file associations, shortcuts, system settings and values, and much more.

In addition to all the day-to-day information that Windows needs to operate, the registry can contain old and obsolete information as well as corrupt or invalid entries. These entries can be causes by a variety of factors such as failed installations, disabled device drivers, incomplete uninstalls, errors during writing processes, incorrect shutdowns, and spyware infections.

When the registry gets loaded with junk and invalid entries, it causes Windows to follow incorrect instructions which then generates errors or slows down the PC. Cleaning the registry of the incorrect entries solves the problem at its root and the PC speeds back up.

You could search the registry for the rtvscan.exe and related files and delete them on your own but doing so is extremely risky. How will you know you’re deleting the imposter programs and not the real thing? If you delete the wrong ones, your Symantec program will no longer offer the full protection you paid for. In fact, it may stop working completely. In addition, registry editing is dangerous in its own right. One slip on the key board and you could cause permanent, immediate damage to your computer.

Editing the registry is not only dangerous, it’s time-consuming as well. Isn’t your time better spent on more productive tasks?

Instead, use a software utility designed for the job such as RegCure from ParetoLogic Software. This product knows which rtvscan.exe files are false and will clean them, along with thousands of other invalid registry errors, in a matter of just a few minutes. And the cost of the program is reasonable.
