Task
Manager
The
Windows Task Manager is a handy tool that you can use to
view your computer’s performance, see what programs and
processes are currently running, and end tasks and
processes. To open the Task Manager, simply hit Control +
Alt + Delete and choose Task Manager from the screen.
If you
notice that your performance is sluggish, you can view a
graphical display by opening the Task Manager and clicking
on the Performance Tab. This display will show you how much
of your memory is being used, how much of your CPU is in
use, and display a graph of the recent usage history. If
your performance is consistently maxing out your CPU and
memory, you’ll want to do some computer maintenance to get
your computer running more efficiently.
Several
steps you can take on your own include emptying out your
temporary files, defragging your hard drive, and clearing
out the older System Restore points. But to really get your
computer back up to speed, consider using a software utility
to clean out your Windows registry.
The
reason you should clean the Windows registry is because it
is the primary repository of information that Windows
accesses on a regular basis to get instructions about your
hardware, software, and files. Everything about your PC is
stored there. The problem is, the registry can get huge and
loaded with obsolete entries. Remember that old scanner you
used to have? Windows does! Windows may be loading processes
related to hardware you no longer have every time it starts
up. These processes, although no longer needed, take their
fair share out of your computer’s resources.
In
addition, invalid entries, incorrect shortcuts, spyware
instructions, empty file associations, and other registry
entries are telling Windows to perform certain tasks that
are not needed and are slowing your PC down considerably, or
even worse, causing computer errors. One look at the Task
Manager and its Processes tab will show just how many
processes are running at any given time. Chances are, many
of those processes are obsolete.
But how
do you know which processes are needed and which aren’t?
That’s a tough call for the average computer user to make.
Instead, let a registry cleaning utility such as RegCure
from ParetoLogic Software figure it out for you. The
developers of this program have provided RegCure with a huge
database of definitions so that it can determine what should
be included in the Windows registry and what should be
cleaned out.
RegCure
has a free download of the scanner tool that you can use to
determine if your Windows registry is a good candidate for
cleaning. If so, you’ll see the results listing all of the
errors that can be repaired. By repairing the registry,
you’ll see your computer errors disappear and notice an
immediate boost in your computer’s performance.
RegCure
is inexpensive to purchase and goes to work for you right
away. In addition, this software can be used over and over
to keep your computer running at optimal performance levels.
Simply set it up once for automatic updates, automatic
scans, and automatic repairs. Try a weekly schedule of
RegCure scans and enjoy your computer’s increased speed.
When you view Task Manager after running RegCure, you’ll see
that your resources are being managed far more efficiently
than ever before.
